According to the tradition, Voice of the Nomads Festival opened on 11 July in Ulan-Ude. The opening ceremony took place in the Buryat Drama Theater. This year the festival has new formats. It now has a movie theater at the city philarmonic hall that will be used to show best movies by Buryat and foreign directors. The movie theater was presented by film director Bair Dyshenov whose movie Nakaz Matery (Mother’s Advice) opens the movie program of the Festival, and Bair Tsyrenov, Director for Regional Activities with IFC METROPOL.
MOKOOMBA (Zimbabwe), BOMBINO (Niger), BAIANASYSTEM (Brazil), UULZULGA (France - Buryatia) and other creative groups are among the Festival participants. For the first time the world renowned Buryat singer Namgar will take part in the Festival. Her performance was a part of the Festival’s opening ceremony.

The Festival now also has an open air stage. Guests and participants will perform their experimental musical compositions on the open air stage at the Transbaikal Ethnographic Museum.
The main news of this Festival is an announcement made by the METROPOL Group of Companies that starting next year Voice of the Nomads will be the main part of a new major cultural project – Baikal Harbor Art Forum.

“Buryatia needs a center for attracting creative forces, and the Baikal Harbor Art Forum might become one”, said Timur Tsybikov, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Buryatia.

“The Baikal Harbor Art Forum is to become the main cultural event of 2013 in the Baikal Region”, says Bair Tsyrenov.
